Nicholas also earned this particular distinction from the American Watercolor Society (Dolphin Fellow, AWS). In addition, he held memberships in the Allied Artists of America; Salmagundi Club; Hudson Valley Art Association; North Shore Arts Association and more. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, OH; University of Utah, Metropolitan Museum of Art; Greenshields Museum, Montreal; GA Museum, Athens, GA; Farnsworth Museum, Rockland, ME and more. He won hundreds of awards, including a Gold Medal of Honor, Allied Artists of America (1968); Gold Medal of Honor, American Watercolor Society (1969); and numerous others from the Salmagundi Club, Rockport Art Association Academic Artists Association, and North Shore AA among other.
