O’Malley was a painter, etcher and illustrator born in Dungarvan, County Waterford, Ireland. He began his artistic training at the National Academy of Design and continued his studies under the instruction of Henri and Shirlaw. He traveled across the United States never settling long in one place until he took up residence in Los Angeles from 1926-1929 and again in 1938. The intervening years he spent living in Ireland. He finally moved to New York City where he lived the remainder of his life. He exhibited at Aonach Sailteen, Dublin; the Stendahl Gallery, Los Angeles; and in San Antonio, Texas. His works are held in the permanent collections of the Phillips Memorial Gallery, Library of Congress, Ft. Worth Museum and Vassar College, as well as in many other institutions. O’Malley is listed in The Dictionary of British Artists 1880-1940 by Johnson & Greutzner, Who Was Who in American Art by Falk and Artists in California 1786-1940 by Hughes.
