This lovely watercolor after the work by Paul Thumann (German 1834-1908) known as Kunst Bringst Gunst (Art Wins Heart) depicts a Greek artisan painting a figure on a hydria vase as an admiring companion looks on from the threshold of an open doorway. Thumann’s work was popularly copied at the turn of the 19th/20th century onto porcelain plaques and plates, as well as other mediums such as this watercolor.
