Ahearn was born in Somerville, MA and studied commercial art at the Vesper George School of Art in Boston. He and his family moved to Rockport in 1960 where he spent the remainder of his life and became a well known Cape Ann artist specializing in watercolor scenes of the North Shore (MA) area and landscapes of Ireland. He was a member of the American Watercolor Society, the New England Watercolor Society, the Salmagundi Club, the North Shore Art Assoc., the DeCordova Museum and a past president of the Rockport Art Association. He taught watercolor workshops in Rockport, Alaska, Hawaii and Ireland for many years. He also enjoyed a long career as an advertising artist for General Electric and The Boston Globe. Ahearn died in Gloucester, MA in 2009.
