Serre was a French ceramicist who worked at Sevres Porcelain Plant from 1903 to 1914. He traveled to Vietnam in 1916 to study chinese and khmer ceramics. He taught at Ecole des Arts appliques in 1918 and set up his own studio in Sevres in 1922, near the plant. He produced sculpture by his friends Dejean, Gimond, Niclausse and Comtesse. Encouraged by Emile Lenoble and Emile Decoeur, from 1922, Serre turned to heavy hand-thrown wood-fired stoneware with thick glazes. He engraved his pieces with geometrical motifs and simple designs sometimes highlighted with oxides and glazes. He showed and sold his work at Georges Rouard shop in Paris. Sources:
