A multi-faceted artist, Barker was born into the socially prominent "Barkers of Bath", many of whom were artists. He worked in oils and watercolors, painting subjects from historical and genre scenes to sweeping landscapes. Many of these works were exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1835-1863.
