Bather by Moonlight Louis Frederick Berneker (American, 1872-1937) Oil-on-artist board, signed lower center.
Painting: 16" x 11.5" Berneker was a painter, etcher, and teacher in New York City and Gloucester, MA.. He painted landscapes, harbors and figures. He studied at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts and with J.P. Laurens at the Académie Julien in Paris (1903-04). Berneker was a member in New York City of the National Academy of Design, the New York Watercolor Club, the American Watercolor Society, the Salmagundi Club, and others. In Gloucester he was a member of the North Shore Art Association. He exhibited extensively including at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Allied Artists of America (NYC) and the National Academy of Design (NYC). Berneker painted murals for the Church of St. Gregory the Great (NYC) and the Chicago Theater, Chicago.
