Born in 1930, in Warsaw, Makowski first studied with Kazimierz Tomorowicz at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in the 1950’s. Polish Colourism influenced him early in his career but by the 1960’s was was delving into elements of magic, astrology, Greek mythology and the cabbala. He exhibited widely, including at the Marlborough Gallery London and is in the collections of The Baltimore Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art.
