Boy with Bubble F.W. Searle (British, active late 19th century) Watercolor on paper, signed lower left corner.
Painting size: 9.5” x 6.25” This painting of a boy playing with a soap bubble, pipe and bowl at the ready, is possibly a copy of a figure from a 17th-century Dutch genre scene. The painter obviously had a sophisticated understanding of color and effectively captures the intensity of a young person fully engaged with his activity. Searle exhibited a watercolor of plums at the Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street in London. He is listed in the Dictionary of British Art, Volume IV: Victorian Painters (Wood, 1995). |
