Hippolyte François Moreau (French 1832 - 1927) "Printemps", a Bronze of a Young Woman Gathering Irises Markings: Signed, "Hipte Moreau"; Foundry Seal "H.Hirschwald, Berlin"; "EW/3998"; Faintly inscribed, "Societe des Bronzes de Paris". Height 25" (very good mid brown patina with minor scratches and wear consistent with age) Born in Djion, France 1832, the second son of Jean-Baptiste Moreau, Hippolyte Moreau went to work in Paris under the direction of Francois Jouffroy and exhibited his first work at the Salon in 1859. He was awarded a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1900. The best of his work includes charming full figures of children and young women, mostly allegorical, often with the same subjects as used by Hippolyte's brothers Auguste and Mathurin. He died at Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1927. He is represented in the Chambéry Museum and a version of this bronze is in the Museum in Dijon.
