Born in Brive-la-Gaillarde, in 1933, Jean-Baptiste Valadie is a painter, sculptor, printmaker, draftsman, lithographer and illustrator. Children, birds and the sun are repeated motifs in his works, but the central figure in most of his paintings is a sensuous woman.

His first artistic studies were at the Academie Charpentier in Montparnasse. Then for four years he was a student at the School of Applied Arts (graduating in 1955). Valadié was a frequent traveller and in 1956 he participated in his first exhibition in Dakar (Senegal). In 1960, during his military service, he exhibited at Algiers.

There followed numerous exhibitions in France (Paris, Cannes, Lyon) and around the world: South Africa, England, Australia, USA, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, and Belgium.
