Geer Morton was born in Maine in 1935. Morton moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1960 where he studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and immersed himself in the “Bay Area School” which included artists Elmer Bischoff and Richard Diebenkorn under whom Morton studied.

Morton and his wife, Gwen, moved to Hopland (CA) in 1970 to pursue portrait commissions and to paint en plein air. During this time he exhibited extensively throughout California. In 1983, Morton returned to Maine for summer retreats painting scenes of small town coastal life.

Morton currently has two studios, one in San Diego where he focuses primarily on still lifes and one in Maine, painting half the year in each. He has held the positions of Chairman of the Design Department and Instructor of Drawing and Painting, both at the San Francisco Art Institute.
