Moormans was a popular and well known artist of the 19th century specializing in portraits and interior genre scenes in the style of the 17th century Dutch artists such as Metsu and Vermeer. He was a student at l’Academie d’Anvers and a professor at l’Academie d’Amsterdam. He participated in numerous exhibitions notably at the Paris Salon where he was awarded a medal in 1889. His paintings are in the collections of the Montreal Museum and the Museum of Beaux Arts, Rouen.
