Eugène Laurent (French, 1832-1898)
Sculpture in bronze, signed on base.
Laurent’s artistic career began under the tutelage of Coinchon. He went forth to become a successful artist during his life, first exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1861. Best known for his portrait busts and figures of celebrities, Laurent was selected to create two public monuments. His statue of Jacques Callot was dedicated in Nancy and the Paris town hall was the permanent home of his statue of François Boucher.
Laurent is listed in The Dictionary of Western Sculptors in Bronze by Mackay.
