George Gerwitz (American, active 20th century) Seal of Delaware Paint and gesso on canvas mounted on board, 1912. Diameter: 32” **Please note: This item is not currently on view in our gallery. This folk art interpretation of the Seal of Delaware decorated the 1912 Democratic Convention in Baltimore, Maryland where Woodrow Wilson was nominated. The addition of thirteen stars to the seal represent the original thirteen colonies. The artist, George Gerwitz, was a Baltimore designer and decorator who proudly displayed this seal in his home on Albemarle Street. |
