Guglielmo Pugi is best known for carving the bust of King Umberto I for the Piazza Umberto I in Fiesole, a small town in Italy renowned for its view of Florence and also Pugi’s hometown. At his studio, Guglielmo Pugio, he specifically used marble and alabaster to create his works. He was eventually joined in business by his sons, and his business was known as Guglielmo Pugi e figli. His sons, Gino and Fiorenzo, followed in their father’s footsteps and created their own atelier Fratelli G e F Pugi in 1935.
