These are very fine early engravings from Francis Willughby's and John Rays "Ornithology" published in London in 1678. It was the first book published in the English language on the subject of birds and one of the earliest to take advantage of the new art of copper plate engraving. Each piece is 8.5" x 13". Framed hand-colored engravings on rag paper from Colen Campbell's "Vetruvius Britannicus" (1715-1725) the great eighteenth century volume on architectural design. Each is approx. 25" x 20" framed; only conservation materials used. Coloring is later, and each print is in excellent condition.

Antique bird prints in original hand-color from Johann Leonard (1666-1743) Frisch's "Vorstellung der Vogel Deutschlandes..." published in 1733. This is possibly the earliest publication on domestic birds in Europe. Frames are vinegar painted and framing materials are conservation quality. Each is approx.21" x 26" framed; all are in excellent condition except for the goose print, which has a significant repair (e-mail to discuss).

Framed botanical engravings by Basilius Besler in yellows and oranges from "Hortus Eystettensis" 1713 edition on heavy rag paper. Each is 26.5" x 30" framed; conservation framing materials used. Prints are in fine condition.

Charming vignettes of life in eighteenth century Holland. These hand-colored engravings, still-life scenics with formal garden elements, are from "Holland's Arcadia" published in the 1700's. Each overall is 15" x 14" framed; conservation materials used. Prints are in fine condition.

Framed hand-colored engravings of bird's eye views of British Country Estates from Dr. Harris' "History of Kent" published in 1719. The plates were engraved by Dr Harris and Johannes Kips. Overall framed size is 27.5" x 25". Conservation framing materials used. Plates are in fine condition.

Etchings of classical statues executed by Frenchman Francois Perrier while working in Rome, published in 1638. Perrier was also known as "Le Bourgignon", hence the combination of the letters FLB as the signature that appears on his etchings. Framed in silver with conservation materials each piece is 16.25" x 21.75". Prints are in very good condition.

Rarely found and beautifully rendered copper plate engravings of statues of classical figures by Frenchman Pierre Bouillon from his "Musee des antiques, dessine et grave par P Bouillon..." published in 3 volumes, Paris 1810-1821. Each is matted in conservation mats; sheet size is 14" x 21"; plate size is 11" x 15". In good condition.

Steel engraved French regional maps by Victor Levasseur 1856. The maps have hand colored borders and are surrounded by images and historical information pertaining to the particular "Department". Each is 14" x 24" and in excellent condition. More are available.
