Very fine pair of zinc coated cast iron garden urns with egret base each marked JL Mott foundry NY. Additional patent marks inside the base (patented April 11 1871) and on the underside of the rim (patented Feb 8 1872). Cast is very fine. Each is 40" high with a bowl diameter of 29" and a base diameter of 20". Re-painted for use outdoors.

A pair of cast iron garden urns in the campagna style with attached metal decorative collar of alternating pairs of bunches of grapes and grape leaves. Each is cast as 1 piece on a shallow (2.5") plinth. These are quite rare; probably ca 1880. They have a wonderful reddish sun-dried patina as befits their origins in Texas. Each piece is 32" high and 24" in diameter. No apparent flaws.

Pair of large garden urns from the J L Mott Foundry NY ca 1870 in the Morning Glory pattern. The Smithsonian owns several of a variant on these it has used in the Edith Haupt Garden on the Mall. Bowl sides have highly decorative fluting ending in a protruding bottom faced with morning glory blooms, the decorative stems extending beneath. Each is 34" high, bowl diameter is 29"; base is 15" square. Stripped, rust-proofed and re-painted. In very good condition.

Ten magnificent double page plates of Roman processional featuring all the glories of Rome. Exquisitely designed and executed depiction of a triumphal march, each plate flowing into the next as part of one long dioarama. From Jacob Tonson's "Caesar", London, 1712. Includes a parade of Hannibal's elephants. Each plate app. 17.5" x 17.5":sheet size 24" x 19". On rag paper; some minor imperfections. Please see my blog.

This terracotta figure of a cymbal player is modelled on the seventeenth century original in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. It is a figure seen in many garden settings since the 1700's. This is an American version in terracotta ca 1930; an identical one is pictured in Barbara Israel's book (p 142, fig. 2.19). There have been some repairs to this piece, but they have been done well for the most part. The figure is 55" high, 26" wide, 24" deep; the base is 17.5" square.

French urn with graciously curved scalloped underside and foliate handles set on a large plinth each side of which features the sculpted profile of 2 beautiful women (the faces are repeated on opposite sides). Unusual lead garden urn with cap ca 1720. Cylindrical center section carries a frieze and is topped with a heavy extended rim. The opening is covered with a fluted cap which covers the hole but not the entire rim. Underside is a scalloped design returning to a fluted tapered column and square base. 40" high; rim is 22" across; lid is 16" in diameter; the base is 14" square. Stylistically early 1700's, possibly earlier. Wonderful centuries old patina...

This is a very functional and hardy set of garden furniture consisting of 2 late nineteenth century wrought iron strap side chairs of the "Adams foundry" design (though these are not marked they are from the same period); one bench in the same style from the early 1900's, and a well-matched vintage occasional table with a strap top.
