A rare set of four rare urns. Four early tassa style urns on Grecian pedestals with fantastical "cornucopia" ears - horns overflowing with fruit in an ornately interwoven design. The bowls have egg and dart rims and scalloped undersides. The urns - all one piece - sit on classic early Grecian plinths; the whole beautifully proportioned. Probably ca 1860. From a Baltimore estate. Identical urns, though without the Grecian base, are pictured in Barbara Israel p 152 fig 3.10...

This terracotta figure of a cymbal player is modelled on the seventeenth century original in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. It is a figure seen in many garden settings since the 1700's. This is an American version in terracotta ca 1930; an identical one is pictured in Barbara Israel's book (p 142, fig. 2.19). There have been some repairs to this piece, but they have been done well for the most part. The figure is 55" high, 26" wide, 24" deep; the base is 17.5" square.

French urn with graciously curved scalloped underside and foliate handles set on a large plinth each side of which features the sculpted profile of 2 beautiful women (the faces are repeated on opposite sides). In terracotta it is in 3 pieces the bowl, bowl support and plinth. Wonderfully weathered surface; some wear at the top of the bowl support. Intricately designed American cast iron garden chairs ca 1890. Stamped on back as "Betsy Ross Chair", this is a design not found in Europe and one of the most complex patterns in cast iron garden furniture. These chairs have been stripped, rustproofed and repainted. Each is 32.5" high, 25.5" wide; seat height is 17", seat depth 15". Condition is excellent.

Uniquely American cast iron bench and side chair ca 1890. The late Victorian "renaissance scroll" bench is ornate in every detail and features a woman's head medallion as the focus of its back rest. The side chair is stamped "Betsy Ross Chair", an identity that is not found on the larger bench, though the designs - excepting variations in size - are identical. Unusual lead garden urn with cap ca 1720. Cylindrical center section carries a frieze and is topped with a heavy extended rim. The opening is covered with a fluted cap which covers the hole but not the entire rim. Underside is a scalloped design returning to a fluted tapered column and square base. 40" high; rim is 22" across; lid is 16" in diameter; the base is 14" square. A pair of cast iron garden urns in the campagna style with attached metal decorative collar of alternating pairs of bunches of grapes and grape leaves. Each is cast as 1 piece on a shallow (2.5") plinth. These are quite rare; probably ca 1880. They have a wonderful reddish sun-dried patina as befits their origins in Texas. Each piece is 32" high and 24" in diameter. No apparent flaws.

Rare early tassa style urn in cast iron. Bowl has egg and dart rim with scalloped underside. There is a separate collar piece and a fluted column neck attached to a square base. A small piece missing from the rim has been repaired. This style probably dates it to ca 1860. It is large with a 35" basin; overall standing 27" high and 16" square at the base.

Unusual pair of planters in the shape of tree trunks with 4 trunk offshoots. These salt-glazed ceramic pieces are reminiscent of the Portland Stoneware "all weather" ceramic garden urns of the 1880s, and are probably late nineteenth century. There is one central trunk and four branching trunks. There are acanthus and flowering plant designs alternating at the base between branching sections. Cast iron fountain consisting of dramatic figure of a winged griffin supporting a wide basin with elaborate acanthus design on its underside ca 1870, possibly maunfactured by Fiske. Is in 3 pieces; circular base, griffin support and water basin. Overall height is 46"; basin diameter 35", base diameter 12". Is in excellent condition with no breaks and wonderful surface.

Charming bronze figure of young boy with headband playing panpipes, probably early 1900's. Wonderfully detailed casting with an excellent patina. Set in concrete pond of later vintage. Gentle sound of falling water suitable for indoors as well as out. Figure is 33" high, 9" wide by 12" deep. Minor repairs on one hand and at mouth. Concrete basin is 44" wide, 35" deep, 10" high.
