Karl Friedrich Schinkel garden bench and chairs
Karl Friedrich Schinkel, German artist and architect, was one of the earliest to take advantage of the practical and design potential of cast iron in these, some of the earliest successful examples of "mass produced" garden furniture. Produced originally for public gardens they incorporate Pompein inspired features such as cloven hoof legs, rams-head arms and classical back splats into a very functional design. Germany ca 1840-1860. Provenance: the King Ranch, Texas. Bench is 30" high by 44" wide by 18" deep. Side chairs re 30" high by 24" wide by 18" deep. Multiple layers of old paint. In very good condition.
