| Unusual lead garden urn with cap ca 1720. Cylindrical center section carries a frieze and is topped with a heavy extended rim. The opening is covered with a fluted cap which covers the hole but not the entire rim. Underside is a scalloped design returning to a fluted tapered column and square base. 40" high; rim is 22" across; lid is 16" in diameter; the base is 14" square. Stylistically early 1700's, possibly earlier. Wonderful centuries old patina. Has the lean typical of lead urns over time. The base has been rebuilt to support the urn proper, though this is not visible from the outside. Other cracks and splits typical of age. A rare find. | |||||||||||||||
