A rare set of four rare urns. Four early tassa style urns on Grecian pedestals with fantastical "cornucopia" ears - horns overflowing with fruit in an ornately interwoven design. The bowls have egg and dart rims and scalloped undersides. The urns - all one piece - sit on classic early Grecian plinths; the whole beautifully proportioned.
Probably ca 1860. From a Baltimore estate. Identical urns, though without the Grecian base, are pictured in Barbara Israel p 152 fig 3.10. Each is 42" high by 35" wide overall; bowl diameter is 24", urn height 21"; pedestal height 21"; 15" square at base. Small piece of the urn base missing from 1 urn; a section of rim has been re-attached on the same urn - an old repair nicely done. Otherwise excellent condition.
