|These elegant vintage Mexican green onyx sterling silver earrings are bezel-set with a twisted wire at the base . The edge is decorated with tiny silver circles intersected with silver domes. They are expertly crafted by an old silver shop, Plata Real, that exercised care and experience behind every piece of their work. These Mexican maestros from the 1920’s-1950’s were responsible for heralding their design and craftsmanship as the premier silver capital of the Americas. They are marked, "925 Plata Real, sterling, Mexico" with a crown symbol on top. This hallmark is documented in Billie Hougart’s, “The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks”. This mark pre-dates the Eagle assay mark, which was mandatory in 1948. They look to be 1940’s. They are approximately 1-3/8” in diameter, weigh 19 grams, and are clip ons. They were entirely fabricated by hand. These are in excellent vintage condition with the only blemish being a few of the tiny balls are dinged and there are minor scratches on the stones consistent with normal wear. These are very collectible and are a striking sophisticated design.|
