| This circa 1900 offering is for three pieces of Thun porcelain: an 8” butter dish, a 10” by 6 ¼” covered oval serving bowl and a 7 ¼” diameter covered round serving bowl. The pattern is a light green with gold edging and the handles and lid knobs are also accented with gold paint. Each of the serving bowls is 2 ¾” deep and 5” tall with the lid in place. All three of these very old porcelain pieces are in extremely good condition with no chips, nicks, scratches or repairs. There is some very slight wear on the hand-painted gold trim. The porcelain mark on the bottoms of the serving bowls says “Vienna, Austria” but after much research I found that these were actually made in Czechoslovakia (Bohemia) and attributed to Vienna. In any case, these are wonderfully beautiful, high-quality porcelain pieces from Eastern Europe. “Four New York importers used the double shield and crown mark, they were PH Leonard, Bawo & Dotter, Charles L Dwenger, and Paul A Straub & Co. It was used on the Vienna China line from Count Thun's factory in Klášterec. The documentation is confusing. PH Leonard was the first to use the mark, and then Bawo & Dotter after Leonard went broke in 1898, next was Dwenger, and then Straub sometime after 1915. I believe the only thing one can be sure of is that the mark represents a Count Thun factory line of china from the late 1800's to the early 1900's.” The previous quote is from www.collectorscircle.com. | ||
