Japanese patterned with center in underglaze-blue, iron-red and gilded decoration with pomegranate and leaf decorations on blue notched roundel. Four fan-shaped panels decorated alternatively with green and gold trellis diaper ground with russet leaping kylin and purple whorl ground with purple, green, iron-red and gold floral sprig.
9" diameter. Arms of Louis XVI of France encircled by the Order of St. Esprit, within a border of stylized cartouches. Underside includes double ring and foot marks consistent with 18th century porcelain. In the 19th century Samson of Paris produced copies of armorial wear and this Japanese example may have been directly copied from one of them.
