Charleston Chippendale Mahogany Tea Table, circa 1765
Rare small-scale tea table, approx. 28" diameter, attributed to Daniel Burnett. The best carved base. Note: cleats were trimmed back with shrinkage to the top--they extended over the plane of the top. Top is approx. 28" one way and 28 5/8" against the grain of the single board pie crust top. IN the opinion of my cabinetmakers, the top and base are original to one another. However, contrary opinion exists. I would have not bought the table without reassurance that the top and bottom began life together. This table invites serious inquiries.
