Robert Wilkie was a landscape, genre, still life and bird painter. He was born in Halifax (N.S.) and began his artistic career there about 1849. By 1853 he had begun to contribute landscape views to Gleason's Pictorial Drawing Room Companion and in 1856 he was listed for the first time in the Boston Directory. From then until 1902 he lived in Boston and Roxbury. in 1863-65 he was Boston artist-correspondent for Frank Leslie's Illustrated Weekly; in 1868 and later he was doing work for the Boston lithographer , Louis Prang.
120 of his paintings were exhibited at the Vose Galleries in Boston in 1948.
