Italian Orientalist Impressionist Oil Painting - 1920s

Fine Italian impressionist painting by Gino Albieri (1881-1949) of men gathered inside an Islamic Mosque. This work is painted with oils on a mahogany panel and mounted in it's original heavy carved and gilded Italian wood frame. The painting dates to about the 1910 - 1920 period. It is signed by the artist, on the front, lower right, "G. Albieri". In addition, there is some faded writing on the back of the panel which I can not read, but have pictured (see photo).

The painting measures 8.25" x 12.5" and the frame measures 12.75" x 16.75".

Although the scene looks to be nocturnal, I suspect that it is a daytime view, as there seems to be light in the center of the scene, filtering down from up above. The group of men look to be Persian or perhaps Arabian and they are having a serious meeting of some type, maybe prayers. Gino Albieri has expressed this scene with a very mystical insight by using the light and shadows and with his fine brushwork and composition. The paints are applied thickly over the whole surface and the brushstrokes are loose, but exact and expressive. Orientalist views were Albieri's specialty and many of his paintings that have been sold at auction are of Mosques and other Near or Middle Eastern subjects.

This painting is in excellent original condition, with no damage or restoration. It does not need a cleaning. The frame has wear, losses to the gilding, and some areas of paint touch-up, mostly on the sides. It could be restored, but will display nicely in the mean time. This painting is a nice example of early 20th century Orientalism.
