French Cameo Glass Vase by Daum Nancy - Art Nouveau

Beautiful antique enameled cameo glass cabinet vase by the well-known art glass firm, Daum et Cie, of Nancy, France. This piece is signed in enamel by hand, on the side, with the Cross of Lorraine and 'Daum Nancy'. It is decorated in the Art Nouveau taste and dates to circa 1905-1910.

The vase measures 3 1/8" tall, 3 3/4" wide, and 2 1/8" deep. The clear glass body has mottled pink, yellow, and light purple internal shading, with a matte finish, and the ornate acid cut-back decoration consists of Coreopsis Daisies and leaves, carefully enameled in oranges, reds and greens. Some of the areas between the leaves and flowers have been left with a beautiful grainy, sand-like texture, adding another dimension to the shading and contrasting nicely with the smooth higher-gloss enamels on the raised plant parts. The bottom has a matte-finished ground and polished pontil, and the top rim is also ground and polished, normal for this ovoid form.

This piece is in excellent condition with no restoration or damage, with the exception of a light scratch on the pontil (see photos). Daum et Cie was started by Jean Daum in 1875 and produced glass in a number of popular styles and techniques. The style of signature on this piece dates it to the 1895-1920 period and the Coreopsis Daisy decoration is usually dated circa 1905-1910.
