Mexican Modernist Sterling Silver Pitcher - J. L. Reyes

Wonderful old Mexican Sterling silver decanter by master silversmith, Juvento Lopez Reyes. This piece was made in Taxco or Mexico City, circa 1940 - 1950s and is fully marked on the bottom with the artist's stylized monogram "JLR" as well as, "MADE IN MEXICO" and "STERLING 925" hallmarks. This pitcher has a very fluid, simple modernist design, directly influenced by a similar design by Johan Rhode for Georg Jensen of Denmark.

Size: 8.25" tall x 6.25" at its widest. / Total weight: 450 grams (approx. 14.5 troy oz.)

Juvento Lopez Reyes worked at Maciel and opened his own workshop "Plateria del Recero" in 1935. The taller sold fine flatware at top retail outlets including Ranch Alegre, Sanborn's, and Margo de Taxco.

This piece is in good condition, as shown in the photographs. There are a few minor dents and light scratches to the surface, which a professional silversmith could easily fix. A nice example of modernist Mexican silver from the Spratling era.
