Vintage French School Of Paris Painting- Deco Modernist
"Pont Alexandre Bridge - Paris" by Moura Chabor (1905 - 1995)

Large and beautiful School of Paris impressionist painting by French-American artist, Moura Chabor. Circa mid 1940s - 1950's. This painting was done with gouache on heavy watercolor paper, and is mounted in its original painted and gold-leaf wood frame.

The painting is panoramic in shape and measures 17.25" x 44.5" with the frame measuring 19.5" x 46.5".

This piece is signed by the artist on the front, lower left: "MOURA CHABOR"

The painting depicts a Parisian city scene with many people looking out over a bridge (the Pont Alexandre Bridge) at the view. There are children with their parents, children playing together, and even a newspaper boy. The style of this painting is very relaxed, expressive, and bold. The animated figures are indicated with strokes of thick color and loose calligraphic lines. This painting is very much in the stylized 1950s post-war Art Deco style in favor at the time. Here is some information taken from the December 18, 1964 issue of Time Magazine:

Moura Chabor (1905 - 1995) was a French woman artist who attended art school in Paris in the 1920's, and was a model for sculptor Antoine Bourdelle for a short time. She moved to New York and made expressive watercolor and gouache paintings depicting children, aerial artists, and dancers.

Moura Chabor is very well-listed and her works are sold at major auction houses and galleries. A search on the internet will show images and information about her.

This painting is in great condition, as shown in the photographs, with some very small areas of touch-up. There is presently no glass in place in front of the work and the new owner will need to add glass or plexiglass. It is a large painting and makes a bold and upbeat mid-century Continental statement!
