Handwrought Brass Candle Sconces Impressive, elegant and early pair of handwrought Arts & Crafts - Art Nouveau brass wall sconces, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, probably circa 1890 - 1920s. These sconces are unsigned and unmarked and although their origin is unknown, they may possibly be American, English, or Scandinavian. The sconces were probably meant to be hung on a wall, but will stand freely on a table or fireplace mantle as well. Size: Each sconce measures 9.75" tall x 9.5" wide x 7" deep This pair of sconces have a beautiful design, with cut-out scrolled patterns bordered by circular punch stamps, copper rivets, large hammered drip trays, and beautifully turned candle holders riveted to the drip trays. These sconces are completely handwrought and hand finished. The hammer work on the drip tray is very fine and back panel is finely crafted and decorated with strong design and proportions. The brass has a golden patina that is very attractive and although they have been kept polished over the years, there are areas that show an oxidized patina, especially in the candle holders, drip trays, and near the copper rivets.
Both sconces are in excellent condition, as shown in the photographs, with no damage or restoration. They could be polished a bit more or allowed to tarnish, and that will be the decision of the new owner. Fine example of handmade Arts and Crafts metalwork. The price of this piece includes insured shipping by UPS Ground, within the continental United States! |
