|A sancai glazed eathenware sculpture of Guanyin in a rocky grotto Ming dynasty The figure seated in royal ease with her left foot supported on a lotus plant rising from a pond in which swims a dragon fish, the faceted rocky grotto also supporting a figure climbing toward a seated Buddha and a horse carrying on its back books of scriptures; the grotto rising from stepped plinth and the whole ensemble finished with colorless, yellow and rich green enamels. 27in (68.5cm) height of sculpture 29 1/2in (75cm) height including wood display stand. provenance: William Clayton, london, purchased 1971-75|
