ORANDA

A 10-piece set of blue and white porcelain bowls with carved seal of Petrus Regout, called "Oranda" ("Dutch' in Japanese) in Japan as the generic name of "Japanized" tea utensils of ceramic ware (specially Delftware) imported from Europe during the Edo period as the time of national isolation (except Netherlands and Portugal). Handed-down collection from the old prestigious family as valuable imports in the late Edo period, probably used to be served with green tea to feast the guests with hospitality. No grips because of the custom-made export pieces for Japan. Very fine antique condition, with inborn kiln-flaws as expected.

approx. H 4.5 cm (1.77in), D 9 cm (3.54in)
