Characteristic stone carving Buddhist figure of Two-figure Jizo Bosatsu called 'Sotai-Jizo' seen mainly in Kanto region, Japan. Edo period, 19th century.
According to its 'gassho' hands position, it seems to have a deep connection to 'Doso-shin' (Traveler's guardian deity) of the local folk religion, then expressed to buddhismize their ancestor's marital figures possibly... Well-embodied the appearance of folksy local belief by its simplified facial expression and its presence.
