A rare early Chinese glass snuff-bottle, Kangxi
An early 'crizzled' glass bottle, exceptionally and unusually very finely diamond-point engraved with foliage. Probably from the Imperial Glass Works. 52mm high. Kangxi, 1662-1722. Provenance: Christie's London, 1997.

Early crizzled glass snuff bottles are known, but I have not seen another with this high quality etching. A similarly engraved small dish, attributed to the Imperial works, from the Shorenstein collection, also dated to Kangxi and engraved in diamond point, was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, sale 2831, lot 2913 (HK $2.42 million!).
