An attractive black-ground quasi-official dragon robe xia pei
, embroidered in couched and colored silks with three five-toed dragons and a pair of phoenix. Late Qing dynasty (1644-1912). Lined in green silk. A few loose threads and some missing tassles but generally very good.
A very similar robe, also with detail at top to simulate a cloud collar, is published and illustrated: Robert D. Jacobsen: 'Imperial Silks, Ch'ing dynasty textiles in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts' #259 (accession #42.8.104).
