| Antique Japanese haihai Gosho-ninghyo doll (crawling baby), wearing a silk bib, carved of wood and covered in fine gofun (pulverized oyster shell). The haihai were given as gifts to young children both at New year as well on their first palanquins while traveling, to serve as a protective force. Early Meiji period (1868-1912).
