This incredible large Hardanger sheet is a true work of art. It is made of 3 panels joined with two seams handsewn with what was known as an "invisible seams" to fit a large bed. So expertly executed that it is hardly seen to the naked eye. This was hand loomed when the looms were so narrow. I imagine it was home grown flax, carded, spun and woven into this white fabric in the period between 1650-1850 when Hardangersom (meaning: work from Hardanger area) flourished in Norway...

This handmade French baker's proofing basket were used to leave the coiled designs on breads that were so loved. They still are, however have gone the way of modernization! I've searched for these original unique baskets for years! So I was thrilled to find this rare handmade banneton of coiled sweetgrass. I think it is ryegrass. it is in wonderful condition for its age...

This splendid pillow slip or sham is of the finest, fluid and drapey linen! However the intricate and finely worked needle lace or reticella is stunning. Then there is the perfectly executed monogram of MT with floral tendrils of embroidery and teeny eyelets on stems. This hand embroidery, though not professional but certainly by a very accomplished young lady, possibly for her trousseau. Most unusual to find a sham of this age with an open end instead of button closure...
All Items : Antiques : Decorative Art : Textiles : Linens and Lace : Pre 1900 item #1280709
This large and magnificent layover sham, was most likely created as a trousseau piece with room for the groom's initial in between. The hand monogram is precisely embroidered in raised or padded stitching on fine cotton. However the rows of pulled and needleworked lace are incredible works of art! The deep 2" edge trim is older hand guided machine embroidered. Over all it measures approx. 44" X 31". I have just safely laundered and pressed it, and feel it is in excellent condition...

This stunning asparagus/vegetable/ fruit drainer is most rare. I cannot find anything similar to it's style and design. The pierced drain design is elaborate and most unusual. The lovely blue designs are a combination of hand painting and transferware. I found this in Belgium in a favorite antique shop. It sit's on 3 decorated and applied feet. The ornate scalloping is decorated on both sides One small break to the top left scrolled pierce and small chip shown in 3rd photo...

This beautiful towel has the most unique damask weave with patterns of checkerboard, diamonds, ferns, and more covering the body. The surrounding border is patterned in ribbons, florals, and foliage. Each end has 1" of intricate hand knotted lace ending in 6" of fringe. If that's not enough, it is further embellished with most unusual turkey red embroidery! This beautiful creamware plate has such rich detail in the two different wicker moulded and pierced designs all around the scalloped edges. It has the impressed and printed markings of the Waechtersbach Prussia Earthenware co. from 1894 to 1906. There is evidence of wear mainly as scuffs to the raised design areas(as seen in photos)...

This wonderful, well used, obviously enjoyed show towel starts the day with "Gutte Morgen" (Good Morning) in German 55" X 20" It is of a finely woven linen which seems to be hand loomed, embellished with much turkey red work, though there are missing stitches, that don't seem to affect the integrity. This incredible hand painted box, possibly from 19th c. or earlier, is hand crafted. The colors in places are vibrant and in worn areas muted, there seems to have been initials on the top which is very worn and has loss of painted design. The top is hinged with pegs, and it is joined by handmade nails, shaped like narrow triangles, you can see the tops in several photos, and in 4th photo...

Wonderful small pillow sham, is completely made with hand stitching, needle lace, embroidery and what appears to be highly collectible Bedfordshire lace. The lace has the significant design with tiny picots in the bridges of the continuous bobbin lace, however I'm still researching it...as always. This 19th c. petite pillow is completely made by hand...every stitch! It encompasses some of the finest hand work in one piece. Heavily padded French Bourdon embroidery is also outlined on side of the ...

This rare piece seems from La Belle Époque,(French for "Beautiful Era"), a period in French and Belgian history that is conventionally dated as starting in 1871 and ended with WWI. Two devastating world wars and their aftermath made the Belle Époque appear to be a time of joie de vivre (joy of living) in contrast. This was a time of relative peace and prosperity, and it reflected in refined elegance everywhere especially in the home. This piece has a porcelain insert with beautiful botani...

I found this most unusual towel in Italy, in perfect never used condition. I was the first to launder it! The design might be considered Art Deco, considering the zig zags, diamond and triangular shapes of the embroidery, drawn work, and needle lace. The beautiful BM monogram is in a deco design with embellishments forming a diamond shape. The nicely padded embroidery is done by the older hand guided machine and is of good quality. The linen is a light to medium weight in a creamy color, and t...

I found this luxurious, finest, and silkiest "fil de lin" French sham in France. It has such detailed needle worked drawn work all around. But my favorite part, besides the exquisite linen is the magnificent BN moniker, with room for the bridegrooms initial to intertwine. Certainly made by a young girl for her trousseau, in anticipation of her bride groom's initial to create their monogram. It has hand drawn work and hemstitching with precise little snow flakes in each corner. The heavily padde...

This pristine Doulton Burslem plate has back marks circa 1886. The exquisite branches of wild roses is hand painted over transferware, highlighted with raised gold. The gold edged, scalloped and fluted ruffled edged are a pale pink blending into the cream center. The body is not glossy but a soft matt, however the back side has a glossy glaze. The condition is perfect, no scratches, chips, or loss of gilt. The back, shown in 5th photo, shows the 1886 mark and artist's signature. It measures 9...
