Hand embroidery, and cutwork enhance this beautiful tablecloth. Perfect for tea!
It has elements of the Swiss Appenzell embroidery style. Hallmarks of the style include the deeply padded satin stitched figural work(the doves),gray marking behind the embroidery, lobed, satin stitched flowers and embroidery, as well as French sanded stitches filling the body of the birds. The antique linen is fine, medium weight, cool to the touch.
Indeed, I found it in Switzerland! It measures approx...

This French cami is absolutely breathtaking!
It is completely made by hand.
The condition is wonderful for it's age.
It fastens in the back with 3 tiny Mother of Pearl buttons, with little loops that might eventually need replacing as they are rather fragile. The satin straps are 1" wide.
It measures approx. 35" across the lace at the top...

This luxurious linen sheet was most likely created by a bride, who hand embroidered it with her initials with room for the initial of her intended! The heavily padded embroidery and design is excellent! I purchased from a French dealer, however I think it might be Italian. The drawn work is fabulous with intricate needle woven X in Squares every 10 ". The 5" deep lace was hand made to turn the corners all around the 34" turn down. It measures 91" X 114"...

This precious clock has such intricate detail in the work. You can see the feathers on the lovebirds, cherub facial features and even more. I just love the figures of the cherubs, the smallest has hands clasped behind...maybe waiting for me to turn off the alarm.!
Well I have gotten rather attached as I have used it nightly to make sure it works well, and it does! A true delight to see first thing in the morning.
The clock was made by the German Globe Co.,and is also marked under the base...

Most likely created created for her trousseau, this delightful and exceptional sham has the characteristics of Swiss Appenzell work, most often made for a trousseau. There is hand embroidered love birds with the typical raised outline around the figures, in a deeply padded button hole scalloped cloud of drawn thread work. The fine antique linen button on single sham or pillow case, was repurposed probably from a larger European size, with 4 shell buttons for the hand sewn button holes...

Fine, almost handkerchief weight linen, with cutwork and incredibly exact hand embroidered designs on this antique piece, most likely created by a young girl for her trousseau. It was meant to keep and protect her handkerchiefs, gloves, or perhaps lace collars or veils. Of course, it could be made into a charming boudoir pillow! The exquisitely crafted basket signifying abundance for the marriage. (Always welcome!) The 3" oval of stylized flowers might have been intended for monograms...

This is a magnificent example of Punto Ombra or Shadow Work from turn of the century. A specialty revived in Italy at the time, it is stitched very closely in the Herringbone Stitch on the back side of the linen, creating a bas-relief effect on the front. The rich blue of the floss shows through creating the shadow...

This is a fine example of the work done at home by ladies long ago! Not only is the hand embroidery perfect, right down to the beautifully scalloped button hole stitched flap, but the french seams are stitched by hand...not machine! Notice the details like the tiny laundry mark in black and white twisted thread, just above the row of drawn hem stitching as shown in last photos.
Absolutely perfect work of art! There are faint little stains seen on the top fold, left and right...
