A stunning polychrome cylindrical vessel from the Central Coast to the Central Highlands of Peru dating c.a.600-800A.D. It stands 3 1/2" in height by 5 1/4" in diameter and has complex sophisticated design elements including fierce raptors and a pair of stylized supernatural masks executed in colors of black, white, and pale cinnamon along with square ticking around the rim. EXTREMELY well drawn for a Huari piece with the control most often exhibited by a really good Nazca potter.

A paper thin extremely well fired circular footed bowl from The Southern Highlands of Peru dating c.a.400-1000A.D. The vessel measures 3" in height by 5" in diameter and has a rich cream base slip with ornamentation in black and red. Two round eyed double headed stylized centipedes circle the rim and there is a curious "X" mark on the underside of the base. The vessel is so beautifully fired that it has the feel of quality porcelain.

An unusual large single spout Moche effigy jar fron Norhern Peru dating c.a. 100-860A.D. measuring 9 1/2" in height by 6" at the widest diameter depicting a moustached noble with elongated almond eyes, large ear spools, and a turban head dress with a tassel hanging down the back. The jar is carefully and thoughtfully adorned with design elements in black and pale tan. The outlining of the eyes with black along with the circular motif below the spout gives the piece and especially strong artistic appeal.

A large urn fragment from Central America dating ca400-860A.D. and measuring 4 1/2" in height by 6" in diameter. This nicely burnished orangeware piece is ornamented with a raised anthropomorphic face with large extended ears and heavy lidded eyes and a prominent aqualine nose and full lips. The ultimate refined face according to Maya standards of beauty.

A gently flaring polychrome jar from Southern Peru dating ca100B.C.-600A.D. The vessel measures 4 1/2" in height by 5" at the widest diameter. Six winged stylized bean shapes circle the rim. The base slip is dark cinnamon brown with design elements executed in a paler orange/brown, white, and black. As you can see from the photos one side has some ancient staining which might be removed with professional cleaning. A nice example of the type.

A superb hand modeled terracotta female shaman effigy from Ecuador dating ca200-600A.D. The figure stands 10" in height by 5" in width. The ornately garbed figure has almond shaped eyes and is wearing a long tunic and a massive head piece along with a huge nose ring and multi-strand necklace. She is grasping a ceremonial staff in one hand and a large rounded squash shaped ceremonial ball in the other. Two large raised cocoa beans on her head piece further strengthen her ceremonial representation. Traces of the original dark green pigment still remain.

A globular single spout effigy jar from Peru dating ca600-800.D. and measuring 7 1/2" in height by 5 1/2" in length depicting a raised monkey head with wide almond eyes wearing large ear spools. The base slip is a soft brown with the design elements in tan, chocolate brown, and black. Numerous serpent shaped motifs and and circles, both enclosing black dots swirl around the upper section of the jar. There are a couple of minor chips to the top of the spout but the piece is in otherwise as found condition.

A fine example of Moche creativity from Northern Peru dating ca200-860A.D. This engrossing single spout vessel depicts a flute player measuring 6 1/2" in height by 5" in width. The base slip is a medium brown and the short cropped hairdo is drawn using fine line black elements. The musician is in a kneeling position and appears to be concentrating heavily as he grasps his pan flute with both hands. His ample round flared nose and short squared exposed teeth and closed eye slits depict a man in a trancelike state lost in his craft.
