This imposing polychrome figure comes from Costa Rica and dates C.A. 500 A.D. -1000 A.D.
He stands 9 1/2" in height with legs spread in a broad authoritative stance. His hands are resting on his hips and he exudes a stern being of obvious authority. The figure is elaborately attired with a wrapped pyramidal cap, earspools, a large discoidal pectoral, a backflap, and a shirt with a woven design. He is painted in colors of burnt orange, yellow, white, and black. The piece is in excellent as found condition with no restoration or overpaint and mineral deposits attest to his great age. There are a couple of small insignificant areas of paint loss on the front and back but they in no way distract from the strong visual impact.
