Although only 7 1/2" in height by 5 1/2" in width this highly ornate figure packs a strong visual punch! The urn comes from Monte Alban, Oaxaca, Mexico and dates Ca. 300 - 800 A.D. He represents the deity Cocijo, believed to control lightning and rain. He wears the "C" glyph as his headpiece, large ear spools, a large nose labrette, and a massive chest ornament. He is typical of Epoch III. Remnants of the original cinnabar remain. Ex: Gerald Alderman Collection
