A compact Zapotec urn from Oaxaca Mexico dating Ca. 300 - 800 A.D. He stands 5 1/2" in height by 4 1/2" in width by 6" in depth. He is garbed in traditional Cojico (deity of rain and lightning} fashion with large ear spools, forked tongue, buccal mask, and the glyph "C" as a headdress. Faint remnants of red and white pigment remain as well as light mineral and sediment deposits. Ex: Gerald Alderman Collection. Provenance: Owned by W. Sebald of PA and prior to his ownership by the estate of a NJ doctor.
