One of those exceptional Jamacoaque transitional shaman figures from Ecuador dating C.A. 200 - 600 A.D. A shaman figure is represented in a deep trance and is in the process of morphing into a bird. He maintains a great deal of the original pigments including deep yellow, red, and cinnamon colored bands in his headdress, wings, and cuffs around his feet. He measures 4 1/2" in height by 8 1/2" from wing tip to wing tip. He has a small support column in the rear which allows him to remain in a standing position. Numerous mineral deposits attest to his antiquity. A beautifully executed and visually striking piece! Provenance: Howard Knowes Gallery, New York City.
