ORIGIN: The South Coast of Peru
AGE: CA. 100 B.C. - A.D. 600
DESCRIPTION: This outstanding double spout bridge vessel stands 6" in height by 4 1/2" in diameter. The background color is a soft off-white. Other colors represented are black, deep red, cinnamon/orange, and light brown. The motif consists of two stylized feline creatures (one on each side of the globe) with huge ovoid white eyes and large black pupils. Each has a long tongue extended with a stylized trophy head at the end. The four paws most likely represent trophy heads as well. Both have upturned multi-striped tails. One is holding a chili pepper in his claw and the other differs in that he is holding two chili peppers. The original spout has been reattached. It is in otherwise excellent condition...high fired with strong clear paint. Definitely a fine piece!
