ORIGIN: Ecuador / high Andes plain near the border of Colombia.
AGE: Ca. 850 - 1500 A. D.
DESCRIPTION: A footed intact Narino bowl measuring 7 1/2" in diameter by 4" in height.
The base color is a soft tan with design elements in dark cinnamon brown. The central motif is an eight sided star...most likely Venus...with ten radiating elements extending out from the center with reversed step elements enclosed in triangles. The use of the design elements gives a visual impression of movement instead of a static brown on tan design. It is beautifully formed and carefully ornamented. The exterior is plain with numerous root marks attesting to its great age. There is a museum mark in the center of the pedestal. PROVENANCE: A private San Diego collection
