CULTURE: Mimbres / Mangas phase
LOCATION: Southern New Mexico
AGE: 1025 A. D. - 1200 A.D.
A rare and fantastic Mimbres scoop measuring 7 1/4" in length by 3" in height. The design elements include two large avian motifs with wavy fine lines enclosed as well as four intertwined stylized serpents also enclosing wavy fine lines. There is a small raised nodule at one end of the scoop to help grasp the vessel for pouring. This is definitely not a piece that slumped during firing...it was made as a scoop. It has been reglued from several original shards. The piece is legal for private ownership under all current State and Federal Laws. Former Hyatt collection.
