CULTURE: Colima ORIGIN: West Mexico AGE: Ca. 300 B. C. - 300 A. D. SIZE: 4 1/2" high by 3" wide DESCRIPTION: A petite endearing solid molded "sheep faced" mother sitting and cradling her infant. She is clothed in a short tunic and is bare breasted. Her headdress is woven at the crown and extends down her back to just below shoulder length. Traces of the original black pigment can still be seen on her tunic and breast area. Numerous mineral deposits attest to her great antiquity. A mother cradling her infant is a universal theme shared by human-kind from the earliest beginnings of our civilization.
