CULTURE: Cocle ORIGIN: Panama AGE: Ca. 800 - 1000 A. D. SIZE: 7 1/2" in diameter by 4" in height DESCRIPTION: A remarkable richly adorned polychrome fruitera in colors of orange, purple, and black, against a cream colored background. This fine line vessel depicts two abstract mythological zoomorphic fantastical saurian creatures outlined by wide black lines. Each has wicked claws and a long barbed fin projecting from the rear of the head. The circular pedestal base is unadorned and displays numerous mineral deposits. The vessel has been reassembled from several original segments with crack lines covered over. The design and brushwork are exceptional and created by a truly fine artist of the time.
